Keeping the winning concept of previous models, Shimano made a further step forward: bigger pulleys, more efficient design and advanced protection.
With introduction of 12-speed transmissions, efficiency become an increasingly emerging feature. That's why Shimano decided to review some components and add more details. Thus, the pulleys replacement, which are now a bit bigger (13 teeth), greatly improves chain management, gear shifting and efficiency on the new 12-speed cassettes. These pulleys don't feature the Narrow Wide profile, although functionality has been improved by the slightly curved design of the cage itself, which allows the longer chain to be handled with the relatively compact cage.
The icing on the cake is the new lower bumper, which is mounted on the outside of the cage to prevent structural damage when the chain is located on the smaller sprockets, or for better protection from trail surprises.
